Partially by coincidence, partially by choice, I ended up at Jinx twice tonight. That, alone, suggests it is a worthwhile stop on one's bar-hopping itinerary. The atmosphere isn't outstanding next to Vault, but the drinks are solid and the service better than good.
Sad to say, the espresso is too acidic and ruins the experience. It's a shame they haven't switched to a new bean, considering the location is great, iced tea is tasty and the seating is comfortable.
Reserved Brewcycle for my dad's 53rd. Everything about the night was fantastic, including the guide (thanks Andrea!), entertaining brewery locations and the quality rock blasting between stops. Already looking for an excuse to go again!
A friend recently recommended I stop in here as a place for studying. Its a bit small for my taste, but I would definitely visit to pick up tea, which is amazing! Also, their setup allows you to watch the processing and packaging that goes on in the back. Happy I checked the place out!
Some of the cutest bikinis and one-pieces around. They do mini runway shows at local events, too, which gave me a chance to see the variety. Also, great service :)
This is one of those rare places you can get lost for hours. Many of the items they offer, I'd rather hunt down via garage and estate sales, but it's still worth stopping in. Also, good place for quick gift purchase.
Of all the cafes I visit (honestly, there are a lot), Breken is my current favorite for a quiet Tuesday morning before work. Their espresso is quality, and 50 cents less than other options in the Pearl. The building itself is unique, stylish and open. Breken's location is even 5-star worthy: train meets industrial meets nw business. This place has been a neat little surprise.
...but, the cab and mojito were worthwhile. Great location, too.
Incredibly cheap drinks. Unique dive-meets-basement arcade feel. Best of all, they have air hockey. The only thing lacking was my competitor's skill level...Take someone with a bit more game, and it'll be worth the trip out ;)
Finally cheated on Cloud Seven by trying out Lovejoy. I wasn't disappointed--stumptown, amazing outdoor seating and the place smells like toast. It doesn't get much better than that.
Apparently, if you would like to have a random run-in with Timothy Hutton, this is the place to hang out. I don't recommend literally bumping into him (at least his Sister's coffee wasn't spilled), but it was good entertainment. Gotta love the Pearl!
Helpful staff? Yup. Well stocked? Always. More importantly, though, visiting this OfficeMax usually involves meeting an awesome dog on your way in, and getting a good laugh at something inappropriate written on notepads beside the tester pens.
This is my new favorite spot to drop in for a quick espresso on my way to clinic. Service was fast, the barista was a comedian (5 stars just for that) and the taste was nothing to complain about. Couldn't get the internet to work well, so I'm not sure I'd stick around. That won't stop me from enjoying everything else about the place. Yum :)
Spent the last 2 sunny afternoons stretched out, reading here with half of NW's residents. Despite the small park being packed whenever there's a break from the rain, I had no problem finding a spot. Plus, there's a geocache hidden here ;)
Can't wait for summer afternoons at Backspace. I've had some of the best/most random conversations here. Good coffee, too.
I've made more late night runs to Skinnidip than I can count with an addicted friend. We rarely make it there before closing, but they always let her in. I love places like this!
Enjoyed stopping in with friends to buy chocolate a few times - any of their chocolate bark is fantastic. On our last trip, though, we ended up leaving after 10 minutes when we still hadn't been helped. 10 minutes wouldn't be a big deal, except that there was no line. Still, I would go back. Chocolate is probably worth at least a 20 minute wait :)
Impressed. That sums it up. I'd heard good things, but it was even better than expected. They may be known for their crepes, but the salads are just as good. Yum.
A dive bar classic. The gluten free beer is the only reminder you're still west of Gresham. I approve.
Probably my favorite place to study in NW Portland...it's all about the atmosphere. Turns out they are great at cooking around food allergies, too! Finally tried their breakfast menu and was surprised by how easy it was for them to make adjustments. They even offer gluten free ;)
Still the best Whole Foods in the metropolitan area, especially since they began carrying local products like Petunia's Pastries. Would like them to catch up with New Seasons by carrying New Cascadia Traditional's bread.
Laughing Planet gets an A+. Had the Cuban bowl...amazing as always. Friendly staff. What can I say, except, YES. :-)
Not a bad spot. Surprised by how good their wine was. Also, there were crayons and table paper galore, which make up for anything lacking in the atmosphere. Likely to have a good time if you go with people you enjoy.
Dear Mio Gelato, I would like you to be open later. Nonetheless, you are amazing, close to the streetcar, and remind me of summer. Looking forward to re-visiting you sometime soon.
Often packed, but worth making a new friend in order to share a table. I recommend their oven-roasted potatoes. More importantly, say yes when they ask if you want cinnamon on your latte. Trust me.
Amazing espresso, great location. Love you guys!
